Best Hair Removal Home Remedies for Female - Get Soft Skin

  • It is hard enough to get rid of unwanted hair from different body areas. It is one of the commonest problems faced by all women. Men can get away by shaving their beard, moustache and cutting their hair. For women it is not that simple.
  • Using electrolysis for permanent hair removal can be painful and also expensive depending on the size of the area that needs hair removal. Home remedies are cheaper, easy to prepare and do not carry the risk of any side effects unlike other treatment methods. The most natural permanent hair removal remedy is a mixture of turmeric powder, gram flour and water.
  • There are many home remedies that can remove hair temporarily, but there are none for permanent hair removal. The techniques used for removing hair permanently are those that involve use of chemicals, energy or both on areas that generate hair growth. These are imperfect methods, in the sense that 100% success cannot be guaranteed.
  • Home remedies for hair removal include shaving, waxing, tweezing, bleaching, plucking or using depilatory creams. Shaving is done by using a razor. You need to moisturize the skin before you start shaving. Shaving cream, a soap, water or body gels are commonly used moisturizers.
  • Wax hair removal at home is a good option, as it is pretty quick. This method removes hair from the roots and large areas of the body can be waxed in one shot. During waxing either hot or cold wax is applied with the help of a spatula or a butter knife to the area to be epilated. Then a piece of hard cloth or a special wax strip is put on this area. This strip is smoothed carefully and is pulled out in one single quick motion in the direction opposite to that of hair growth, thus removing the hair from the follicles. Wax hair removal however can be done only if the hair is not very tiny, but when done properly it keeps your body hairless for quite some time. Ready to use wax strips that come with the wax on them are other options.

Useful Home Remedy for Permanent Hair Removal

The following can be used to remove your hair on face and body including underarms, legs, pubic, bikini area.

Ingrown hair home remedies can be used for the treatment for the redness, irritation and often infection that come with this annoying issue. A challenge for many after removing hair, these tips will help you achieve smoother skin while saving money too.

1. Take milk and put some turmeric powder in it. Apply it on your face and leave for a few minutes. Using circular motion of your fingers, start scrubbing it off. Finally, wash off with cold water.

2. Salt For the Face
Take one cup of warm water and add 1 ½ tsp of salt (scale recipe down for a very small area). Dip a fresh cotton ball or square into the mixture and swipe over the ingrown hairs, don’t rinse off. The salt mildly exfoliates and cleanses the skin, helping to draw out the hair.

Be careful using over nicks, irritated, red or freshly shaved skin and if you use strong exfoliators like salicylic acid, enzyme products or glycolic as it could burn. Use daily until ingrown hairs clears up, but stop applying it if your skin gets red or irritated.

3. Salt For the Body
For ingrown hair on the body like the legs or bikini area, soak in the tub with two cups of Epsom salt. For a bit stronger exfoliation, take the Epsom salt and apply it directly to wet skin working in circular motions and rinse off.

Using a salt-based exfoliator is great to also ward off ingrown hairs before they start for those with oilier or acne-prone skin. If you have sensitive skin, stick to a gentler sugar scrub.

4. Add some turmeric powder to besan (gram flour). Mix in a little water to form a paste. Apply it on your face and leave it on till it gets dry. Gently rub it off your face.

5. Make a paste of yogurt + besan (gram flour) + haldi (turmeric).
Rub the paste gently on the area with hair and leave it for 15-20 minutes till the paste is dried.
Then rub the paste away in the direction opposite to the hair growth. Apply baby oil to soothe the skin.

6. Mix 1 egg white with 1 tsp sugar and ½ tsp corn flour. Blend the mixture thoroughly, till it forms a sticky paste. Apply it on your face and let it dry. Thereafter, peel it off gently. Apply 3-4 times a week.

7. Instead of  the besan + turmeric paste,  turmeric alone can be applied but besan tightens the skin when dried. Yoghurt/curds can be substituted by milk.  If you have oily skin, water or rose water should be used instead of curd and milk. To reduce yellowness of the skin, facial turmeric (Kasturi manjal or Gopuram Turmeric powder) should be used instead of food turmeric.

8. Make a paste of sugar, lemon and water. With the help of a face brush, apply it in the direction of hair growth. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and then rinse off. Apply twice a week.

9. Haldi Powder - 1/4 Tablespoon, Papaya Powder 1/4 Tablespoon, Besan 1/4  Tablespoon,  Mustard oil 2 Tablespoon,  AloeVera Gel( Thin) 4 Tablespoon, Lavender or other Essential Oil 2 drops
The paste should be applied in the opposite direction to hair growth. Should be applied thrice a week for 3 months to be effective.

10. Make a paste of curd, turmeric powder and gram flour. Apply it on your face and let it dry. Thereafter, rub it off gently. Mix well ground white pepper with camphor and a few drops of kerosene. Apply on the legs and leave for a 10-15 minutes. The hair will fall off.

11. Make a paste of 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice and 4 tsp honey. Using a face brush, apply it on your face, in the direction of hair growth. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and then rinse off. Apply twice a week.

12. An ingrown hair home treatment using sugar, a very gentle exfoliant rids dead skin cells and can help the hair point back out of the skin. The hydrating properties of olive oil or jojoba oil make skin more moisturized and pliable, so it becomes easier for the hair to get released.

Sugar Scrub

  1.     1 cup white cane sugar
  2.     ½ extra virgin olive or jojoba oil (more if using on face)
  3.     20 drops of essential oil

13. Mix 1 cup white cane sugar and ½ cup extra virgin olive oil or jojoba oil together, add up to 1 cup of olive or jojoba oil if you’re going to use it on your face. Add ten drops each of tea tree and lavender essential oil or twenty drops of just one essential oil. Mix together stirring thoroughly.
Wet skin and take a small amount scrub and working in circular motions using a washcloth or just your hands. Rinse off and rub any leftover oil residue remaining into the skin. Store the scrub in an airtight container away from heat and use within six months.

14. One another Sugar technique
You can even use the sugaring technique at home by making a mixture of 2 cups of sugar, ¼ cup of water and ¼ cup of lime juice and heating the mixture until it has a thick brown consistency. You can then remove the hair by applying the wax to the skin and using strips of cloth, pull in the direction opposite to hair growth.

7 Other Solutions for Facial and Body Hair

1. Shaving
Shaving is mostly used for legs and bikini line, but the hair grows back too fast after shaving. Also the skin becomes red after shaving or even red bumps can develop. You can use a shaving gel for sensitive skin and apply a solution containing 1 or 2 aspirins in 1/4 cup water with cotton. The anti-inflammatory properties of aspirin cures the redness or red bumps even when applied to the surface of skin.
You should never shave on dry hair. Wet hair is soft and easier to cut. It is myth that shaving increases the rate of growth of hair. Note that shaving does not change the texture, color, rate of hair growth and hair density which depend on hormones.

2. Bleaching
Bleaching is a good option if the hair is dark but not dense like those on the upper lip or other parts of the face, neck and arms. There are many options for facial bleach products at the drugstore or on the Internet.
Mix six per cent hydrogen peroxide with household ammonia or ammonia water. For each 10 drops of ammonia mix 15 gram of peroxide apply immediately after mixing. Leave it for 20-30 minutes. If the result of first application is not satisfactory, repeat it the next day.

3. Tweezing and Threading
Tweezing and threading are considered to be the safest method of removal of unwanted hair but these are extremely time-consuming. Tweeze eyebrows using a sharp, clean pair of tweezers. Place a warm damp cloth over the brows for 5-10 minutes before plucking to soften the area or tweeze immediately after shower.

4. Waxing
Waxing is the easiest and most convenient way for removing hair and can be done at home with ease. Waxing pulls the hair out from below the top layer of skin and leaves your skin smooth. In waxing, a thin layer of melted wax is applied to the skin in the direction of the hair growth. The wax is then pulled off quickly in the opposite direction of the hair growth, taking the hair with it.
In the sugar form of waxing, sugar is used instead of wax to get rid of the hair from face and body. Sugaring is easier to apply and easier to cleanup the mess.

5. Threading
Threading one of the most common and known method of hair removal used on any part of your body. This form of hair removal is used for upper lips, chin, eyebrows or any little patch which hasn’t been taken care while waxing. It requires detail and attention. It is very useful for people with sensitive skin. It is the twirling of the cotton threads which removes the hair for that perfect look.

6. Electrolysis

Electrolysis use electric current to remove hair. Electrolysis is considered a permanent hair removal method because this technique destroys the hair follicle. The technique, however, needs repeats and thus costly.
There are two types of electrolysis devices are in use: the needle epilator and the tweezers epilator. The major risks of using electrolysis include electrical shock, infection from a non-sterile needle and scarring caused by improper technique.
Home electrolysis kits are also available. But because these use very low voltage, they are not very effective.

7. Depilatories

Depilatories use calcium hydroxide and sodium or calcium thioglycolate which dissolve hair. But it involves severe irritation and/or burns to the skin and eyes for some people. Therefore, depilatories should never be used for eyebrows and on broken skin. First test the depilatory on your arm to check for allergic reactions. Hair comes back in a few days after application because depilatories remove the hair on the surface.
